Question on installing Pavers patio?
I am trying to install some pavers that I moved from my foreclosed house to my rental house. I am on a very small budget. I have the pavers but I know that you need to lay the sand first (which is expensive). When the landscaping company installed it, they used a machine to compact the sand and level it to almost perfectly flat. So, I guess my question would be- is that machine necessary or could you try to fudge it with shovels to level it? I don't need it to be perfect looking. I just want something nice in my yard because right now its just dirt. The land lord isn't willing to go in on it, because the way the housing market is, theres no point in puttting money into a house thats just an investment property for him. But I have a huge yard (for a Las Vegas yard) and i want to enjoy it. Please if any one has any do it yourself suggestions, Let me know??
The compactor is nice, but not totally necessary if you're not looking to do a perfect job. I set about an 8 x 10 patio of 1-foot pavers and just used the edge of the pavers themselves to compact the sand and dirt. Just make sure to sprinkle a layer of sand over the top and water that into the cracks when you're done to fill in between the cracks. This prevents the pavers from shifting when you walk on them, which could loosen them. The water also acts to further compact the sand and dirt.
