Can you give me tips on how to paint a landscape?
It's annoying me - it's the only thing I can't paint!!!
It's for my Grandad and I can't get it right.
Any help is very much appreciated.

Hey, I know they're a pain!
I personally would recommend lightly sketching in with pencil or very pale paint, your horizon line and the basic outline of any main shapes eg. hills, trees, etc...
Then use a wash of colour which is basically really pale, watery paint in the right basic colour washed over large areas. Eg. the sky a pale blue.
You can then paint in bigger objects like trees, bushes, etc... using richer paints.
Work from larger, striking objects, down to smaller objects. Eg. if you were painting a hills landscape with trees you would:
1) Mark out the outline of the hills on the horizon line.
2) Mix a pale, water blue and use it to wash over the sky.
3) Repeat with pale green on the hills
4) Add in details like trees and the foreground and background
5) put in final details like shadows and small details like flowers/ silhouettes of people, animals etc...
