Can you give me some advice on the Nikon Coolpix S600?

I might purchase this camera but first I want some advice.
I've read some reviews stating the camera fails at taking decent landscapes. I also read that the features and image quality are not the best, and that the controls are 'fiddly.' Another review stated the shutter lag performance was not the best (although I am not quite sure what that means). I also heard the battery life is very short. To what extent do you agree? Any other feedback would be great.
(It would be especially helpful if you actually had some experience with the Nikon Coolpix S600!)

I've used this camera before, it takes good pictures, it only needs a little brightness and contrast adjustments sometimes, but if you really want good pictures and you have a little more money go for a DSLR, there are some cheap one's out there, you could use them in full auto mode, in other words you only have to zoom in or out and take the picture and the camera will do the rest, or you could use your creativity and handle it manually, it's fun! The Canon Rebel XS and the Nikon D60 are under $600.00, check the side by side comparison bellow
