What is the fastest growing shrub or hedge for South Texas?
I have a pretty big piece of property and live off a gravel road which causes major indoor dust problems when wind is blowing from the south (10 months out of the year lol.)
I'd like to plant something pretty (preferably something that blooms) and extremely fast growing in place of a privacy fence which defeats the purpose of our landscape.
I live in the Rio Grande Valley which has dry/hot weather during summer, so whatever I plant must be heat tolerant, although water supply is constant due to our sprinkler system.
Get some red tip photinias.

They will need some water to get established but once they are growing they can survive on rainfall. Be sure to prune once a year to keep the growing up and to keep their shape. I have a hedge along my bedroom wall on the street side of the house to block noise and they are all the way to the roofline(8'-12' tall).
Plant them about 4-6 feet apart. I just bout them in the 1 gallon containers.
