Planting against foundation - preventing water damage?
We are having some landscaping done and part of the plan includes a flower box built of unilock interlocking brick/pavers against the front of the house. My husband is concerned that the soil in the box will trap moisture and seep into the house/foundation. Is this a valid concerned and if so how might we prevent this from happening?
Get your builder to use sloted agricultural drainage hose in the box against the wall. They may be already going to use it anyway I think it is pretty standard practice if you are worried about gardens against walls.
The pipe is laid against the wall and water drains into the slots and through the pipe to the outside into the storm water drains (usually the ones from the roof). Planter boxes with no drainage usually end up fracturing from the expansion and contraction of the soil. Hope this helps.
