Could I recommend driving US 1 instead of the boring but fast I-95? US 1 has vestiges of the grand old days of real road trips with fascinating local interest points and even the occasional cool, funky old business with glittering neon and tacky architecture.
I'd definitely stop in places like St. Augustine Florida...
