Illustrators out there I need help please.?
Im currently studying an interdisciplinary art and design course. I have been given feedback that I have mature sense of composition and good use of colour. I seem to be illustrating in a naive style, aiming to reduce things down to absolute essentials with analogue imperfections. I dont really know much about illustration and parts of my course have let me down.
I have been a fine artist throughout most of my career, producing abstracted landscape paintings which are removed in style from my illustrations, although the the themes of finding beauty in nature is similar.
Can someone be both a fine artist and illustrator, and how much training do you need to be able to approach agents, espeically if you have little conviction in your mostly self taught skills?

This is a subject I've contemplated myself.
If you look back in history, every great artist had one thing in common no matter what their medium: they all had their own style.
I decided long ago never to have any formal schooling for my ability because I didn't want it contaminated by people who taught based on their own, and other's, subjective opinions. In other words, art is what YOU say it is, not what someone else thinks.
You can be a fine artist and a an illustrator. You don'lt need training. Talent is something you either have, or you don't. If you want to know how other people see you work, get it out there. Find an agent. Life is way too short to procrastinate.
Just do it.
