Landscaping/Pea Gravel experts, got some questions?
We are going to buy pea gravel for landscaping purposes. The problem is figuring out which it the best deal (since different places sell it in different ways w/ different prices), so...
1. How many pounds of pea gravel = 1 ton?
2. How many yards of pea gravel = 1 pound?
3. How many yards of pea gravel = 1ton?
4. How do you figure out how much you will need? I know we need to measure length x width, but do we need to do anything else to figure out how much we would need per yard, pound, &/or ton.
1) Pea gravel is sold by the short ton in the US and 1 short ton = 2000 pounds
2) 1 cubic foot of pea gravel weighs 100 pounds
if purchased by the bag a standard bag is a half cubic foot and weighs about 50 pounds
3) 1 ton of pea gavel is about .75 cubic yards.
4) length x width x depth = cubic measurement
if you have an area 10 x 20 feet you have 200 square feet. If you wish to put in 3 inches of stone that's 1/4 foot. So 10 x 20 x 1/4 = 50 cubic feet @ 100 pounds per square foot that would be 5000 pounds / 2000 pounds or 2.5 tons
