How to make the most out of being poor during Capitalism Day (aka "Christmas")?
Granted, we aren't sleeping in cardboard boxes and standing in line at the soup kitchen, but by "poor" I mean, "American Poor", that tricky version of poor where you live in a modest suburb and drive the only beater on a block full of '09 and later model vehicles, you have the only non-professionally landscaped yard and you have no boat sitting on the side of the house collecting rust. I bought my kids nice gifts I am sure they will enjoy but I'm not big on the "holiday spirit" and fakery. How can I explain to my kids that mom and dad are "santa" and we aren't putting up expensive decorations and lights because it's illogical to waste money that way, when it can go towards food or clothing, and mom's beater gets us from point A to point B just as well as the neighbor's shiny new Dodge?
