How should this short novella end?
The minutes passed by slowly. The screams, the damned screams, wouldn't let up. Rising numbly from the trench, I looked cautiously across the twisted and blasted landscape of ruins, smelling the acrid odor of napalm and burning flesh. I found it strangely comforting, for reasons I still can't explain.
The pod-machines had obliterated most of West Chapel, and the local guardsmen had fought valiantly. Several of the machines stood dead in their tracks, consumed in flames and black coils of smoke. But the war dragged on, I could hear the steady staccato of machine gun fire miles away. It was past midnight, but the sky shone like the dawn. I readied my rifle and followed the path of destruction.
Then I heard a murmur from under a collapsed wall. I raced to it, and began pulling away brick after brick. I hoped and prayed, ignoring the cramps in my fingers. And then...I discovered...you.
You looked at me. After a pause, you said....
(Argh! Writer's block! Help! Help!)
" Who wants pie ! ? ! ? "
