what is the best place for a first holiday in highlands, scotland?
Hi, I'm thinking to surprise my husband and book a weekend in Highlands, Scotland, for a walking-biking, landscape gaping type of holiday.
We've always wanted to see the highlands, but I have no idea where to go, location and accomodation wise.
Any suggestions regarding resorts/villages/towns/hotels would be greatly appreciated.
Inverness is obviously a good centre.
I would personally suggest Brora which is about 90 miles further north. Unspoilt, even by tourists, stunning views, beaches that are miles long, wildlife and reasonably flat for cycling
Gairloch in Wester Ross is similar, in fact the road from Inverness to Gairloch as it goes beside Loch Maree has views you will never forget.
These are the real Highlands not the touristy places!!
