Aberdeen is a majestic city within the north of Scotland. The name Aberdeen means 'between the Don and the Dee, both the rivers surrounding this beautiful and breathtaking place. Aberdeen believed to have been settled for approximately 8,000 years features granite stone homes and buildings.
Before starting your trip to a few of the many attractions, one might establish temporary residence at one of the Aberdeen serviced apartments. These upscale suites feature maid service, private phones, secure entry, private parking, along with a very inviting heated indoor swimming pool.
Probably one of the most interesting attractions is Storybook Glen, a theme park opened in 1980 as the 28 acre home of over 100 storybook characters. Children can climb through the Old Woman's shoe or visit live animals on Old McDonald's Farm. For those who are brave of heart, you can find Troll land including a classic storybook bridge.
As you might expect, Aberdeen is home to many castles. Perhaps one of the most outstanding ones is Dunnottar Castle which served as a medieval fortress standing guard above the sea from around the 15th century. Another beautiful castle is Crather with its beautifully landscaped gardens situated on land given to the Burnett of Leys family by King Robert the Bruce in the 1300s.
Gordon Highlanders Museum is home to exhibits spanning regimental military service from 1881 to 1994. Visitors get the chance to see uniforms, weapons and a special collection of battle awards. Museum staff offer research assistance to comb through records of men who served and burial locations.
For art lovers, the Art Gallery in Aberdeen, built-in 1885, houses works from the period of post-impressionism together with an example of Scottish colonial arts and crafts. A memorable feature found in the main entrance is Komichiwa, which is a very tall sculpture of a Japanese girl. Another very special piece located in the gallery is a grandfather clock made by John Gartly, a nearby Aberdeen clock artisan.
Together with all of the castles {and otheras well as other} points of interest, one unique area not to be missed is Whisky Trail which affords visitors views of the countryside while visiting many of the finest and oldest distilleries along a trail that is a section of the only malt whisky trail worldwide.
