what can i do to avoid more moisture on my basement wall?
I just bought a home that has moisture on the wall that is towards the backyard. The inspector told me that its not to bad. The property was a rental and has absolutely no landscaping in the backyard. Would adding beds and planting help or possibly get rid of the moisture? Or should I try an underground drain with a stone bed, back filled with dirt and reseed? Kyle P
Kyle, you can divert water and you can coat the inside walls with UGL Drylock, but that won't end the problem. . . it'll be a band-aid. Yes, the wall(s) will then feel dry, but the waters still there eroding at your basement walls.
To correctly remedy this you need to excavate that side, clean the masonry and apply a moisture/waterproofing seal (also available through UGL), backfill and then correctly grade the ground away from the house.
